For my kinetic campaign video, I decided to undertake the brief of creating a segment of a lyric video to explore kinetic typography. My first step within this process was deciding on which song I wanted to explore. I chose to look at Vienna by Billy Joel as this is one of my favourite songs and I believe it lends itself nicely to typography consisting of beautiful lyrics and imagery.
After deciding on the song, I undertook some research looking into the inspiration behind the key meanings behind the lyrics. Billy Joel had seen the song as a very nostalgic piece with an important message to enjoy where you are, not wish for the future, as it may not fulfil your dreams. Through this research I was inspired to use typography in a way that was evocative of nostalgia and looking back into your past and the special moments that maybe were taken for granted.
